4 HOTELS WE'RE LOVING RIGHT NOW
Our Founder & CEO spends a lot of time at market in Italy, where she noticed that some of her favourite labels are also behind some of her favourite hotels. Here are her picks for Milan, Florence and Rome, as well as a super-cool one that’s a bit closer to home…
BVLGARI HOTEL, MILANO
Milan boasts many luxury hotels but when our Founder and CEO is in town she heads to the Bulgari. “I love everything about this place, especially the beautiful garden,” says Christine. “When I’m in Milan on market trips, Il Giardino is like my own little oasis in the city.” There’s also a sumptuous spa, amazing breakfasts and rooms so comfy you won’t want to leave. We rate a Deluxe Suite which feels more like a chic apartment than a hotel room.
PORTRAIT FIRENZE, FLORENCE
When the Ferragamo family turns its passion for excellence and craftsmanship to hotel design, the result is nothing less than phenomenal. Set in the heart of Florence, the Portrait boasts incomparable views of the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio, Carrara marble bathrooms and décor that channels ’50s Florentine glamour. “The Portrait is supremely elegant,” says Christine. “I love how they incorporate art, photography and sculpture throughout the entire space.”
FENDI PRIVATE SUITES, ROME
This is a shopper’s paradise: shop the Fendi flagship on the ground floor then head up to the third floor to relax in your own private space. Once you tire of your suite’s original Karl Lagerfeld prints, Diptyque toiletries and Fendi Casa linens, you can move on to the rooftop for a nibble of calamari fritti and a signature Spritz at ZUMA, one of the most coveted tables in Rome. “Go here even if you’re not staying at the hotel,” advises Christine. “The food and people-watching are amazing!”
SHINOLA HOTEL, DETROIT
A bit closer to home, this stunning boutique hotel takes its name from the Detroit-based watch and leather manufacturer. “The Shinola should be on everyone’s list,” says Christine. “And if you’re in Ontario, it makes for a fun road trip.” Super-stylish, it has a Mid-Century Modern vibe and each room is unique (we swooned over the Penthouse Suite). High-tech meets high-touch – we love the Italian cotton sheets – and in-room perks include custom bathrobes and Shinola’s signature scent.
